Thirty-five years ago, the idea of having to “fix” our water was inconceivable, and the thought that ANYONE would be buying water out of a plastic bottle, well that was unheard of!
That said, 35-years ago Water Quality Expert, Antonio Cernuto, was already well aware of what evils were happening to our environment, and therefore our water supply.
Antonio is a pioneer in water remediation. He started working with is his first water remediation company in 1986 in Canada; beginning to educate his clients and helping them, as well as many others, understand how the growth of technology and industry were beginning to affect our planet and also compromise the safety of water everywhere.
Let’s face it, the education curve back then was fairly steep, the world-wide web – the information age - didn’t even exist, and it was not as easy to disseminate information, or to collect it. Most people believed (and regrettably some still do) that water treated and supplied by their municipal water plant and water from their private back-yard well was good, safe and reliable. Antonio’s research and expertise told him otherwise. Those days, he and his colleagues felt like they were making their way upstream without a paddle trying to educate and raise awareness on water quality and safety!
Despite the tide of push-back, he remained committed to what we can now call his life’s mission. Many years of never giving up, Antonio continued researching, attending seminars, reading books, brain-storming with others sharing the same mindset, and every year attending water quality classes.
Moving from Canada to New Jersey, USA, in 2006, he and his business partner launched PUR2o and set out to make folks south-of-the-Canadian-border aware of what was happening to the water being delivered to their homes, their families, their workplaces…basically everywhere!
Antonio’s business partner (turned life partner), is a former television news anchor, with a passion for the environment, research and education; she was a perfect complement to Antonio’s decades long undertaking…and the collaboration worked!
When we asked Antonio how he has reached the point where he is, he laughed and responded, “Working tirelessly… 7-days a week … sometimes with very little sleep and no money! We just decided to stay true to our goal…to educate folks about what the heck is going on with water, and fix it one home and one family at a time!”
After setting up shop in the USA, their passion and education spread first across NJ, beginning in Morris County and moving on to homes and offices in Sussex, Bergen, Passaic, Hudson, Middlesex, Monmouth, Somerset and Hunterdon Counties. They now have nearly 2-thousand families and business owners, as well as 50 wellness offices and businesses relying PUR2o to keep their water safe and healthy in the North-East Tri-State area, covering New Jersey, New York and Long Island, Connecticut and beyond.
While the education curve is very slowly beginning to level off, there is still a lot of learning and teaching necessary.
Company co-owner Mizar talks about the importance of education, “With more information accessible online, people are also not always getting well rounded education, many times it is biased information to promote a product or service.” She explains, “We have many water remediation options, because we know that what may be great for one household, may be different for another. We strive to educate on the truth and the latest research, so that consumers can decide for themselves which company and technologies they wish to choose. As long as people are well educated in the pros and cons, they will be able to decide what’s best for them.”
A perfect example of this is a previous blog on Arsenic in water, where too many people erroneously believe a water softener, no matter how advanced, will solve all their water problems, but that misguided information can have unexpected consequences. Advanced water softening is just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to water remediation. There are so many evils in our water – whether it comes from the city, a well and even a plastic bottle – that simply adding salt to fix a problem is just not going to cut it.
Because the list of chemicals, pollutants and other evils in water can be long and varied, there are many remediation solutions necessary. It’s important to know what’s in YOUR water in order to correctly and completely FIX the problem.
Because PUR2o believes Knowledge is Power and with knowledge everyone has the power to make changes, they launched their “What’s in Your Water” Wellness Workshops where they aim to educate attendees about the contaminants being found in water supplies everywhere and the adverse health effects those pollutants can cause.
Antonio’s idea that no one should take their water for granted continues to reach far and wide. Because of his knowledge and expertise, his message has been getting a flood of attention up and down the East Coast and has people contacting him from all across the county and internationally. He has been recognized within the sports world as having one of the best options for elite pro sports players, with PUR2o Alkaline Plus Water Systems in NFL locker rooms and stadiums, as well as players’ homes!
Since establishing his first office in Toronto and then launching in New Jersey and the North-East region, he is now working with others committed to safe and healthy water in his newest location - Boca Raton, Florida.
When asked what his final words would be to would be customers considering pick up the phone, he says, “We are not sales people. We visit you, test your water, learn about your family and your needs and make the right recommendations with no pressure or expectations. Our goal is to help you feel confident in the choices you need to make, and if something is not right for you, we will tell you so. Our customers’ satisfaction and their experience with us comes first and foremost.”
