ECO-Fashion; Re-usable Water Bottles. It’s about time.

OMG! I am now trendy, fashionable and okay…I’ll say it… hip!

I have been carrying a reusable water bottle for years…more than a decade and now, according to the Wall Street Journal, reusable water bottles have become the new status symbol...an Eco-friendly status symbol!

Brands like Supreme, Lilly Pulitzer and even PRADA are creating upscale, branded reusable water bottles. This is great news, as it’s going to go a long way to combat the billions of plastic water bottles being dumped into the environment every year.

Many high-end labels and others are being splashed on what has become a FASHION ACCESSORY, reusable bottles! They are being carried by runway models, celebrities and me, and no one is ever going to give us quizzical looks or even think we are weird.

Clearly, I am now in pretty good, well let’s just say it – chic - company!

According to a market research company – NPD Group – 105 Million re-useable plastic water bottles were sold in the US in one year, from June 2018 – June 2019, and that number is significantly higher than it was just 10-years ago.

NDP Group’s home industry advisor, Joe Derochowski says that ubiquitous plastic water bottle has become the “adult binky” …folks can’t go anywhere without one; “you’ll see people have multiple of these: one for exercise, one at home, one for the car, one for the office.”

If that observation applies, one person using an average of 4-plastic water bottles a day, racks up to 1460 plastic bottles a year…that’s ONE person. And that’s just in the USA! The 105-million re-usable bottles sold in that one year span, could be taking 153 billion single use plastic bottles off the market!

So, now that we can all be trendy and we can ALL start carrying a reusable water bottle without being accused of being a “Socks with Birkenstocks” or a “tree-hugging Crunchy Granola Mom” …we’re going to be bust-out BOUGIE!

The WSJ compares a branded water bottle to a status symbol, not unlike a designer handbag or a trend-setting briefcase which mean now you too can be like Reese Witherspoon caught on camera with a LifeFactory Bottle…or Jonah Hill sporting a Hydro-Flask and Jennifer Gardner with her BKR bottle…and Jennifer has young children...I’m betting they too have their choice of “chic-chic” re-useable water bottles! - at least we can hope! Or a smart bottle… yes we can find a way to integrate technology into everything… the DrinKup bottle, holds 17 ounces of water — and vibrates to remind you to drink. With an LED screen embedded in its cap that also reminds to take a sip. It keeps water cold for up to 24 hours, and needs charging only every 30-90 days.

Know who else is riding the wave and using beautiful water flasks? Let’s see Julia Roberts and Sienna Miller have both been photographed with one. So have Gisele Bündchen and Zac Efron and Sandra Bullock.

Let’s face it, we need trendy, famous people to rally the cause. Look what Elton John and Elizabeth Taylor did for AIDS; or Audrey Hepburn and Angelina Jolie for children on behalf of the United Nations, George Clooney, Brad Pitt and matt Damon in Sudan…and the list goes on and on!

According to In Style while celebrities are known for always sporting the latest handbags or coolest sunglasses, another accessory is taking over. Yup…the re-usable water bottle! That means…NO MORE single use plastic bottles!

BUT WAIT! What goes inside those bottles? There’s the million dollar question we are missing!

Do you really think these A-listers fill up from regular tap water? We know for sure that if they are willing to dish $40+ on a designer water bottle that they are not drinking the chemicals, pollutants, pharmaceuticals, heavy metals and more that are found in our water supplies.

Not at all. The smart ones filter their water at home, and the really smart ones filter their water with PUR2o! (Yes, we can boast a few celebs of our own!).
